Everything happens at your bookmark.

The companion follows your reading progress.

Read

A quiet, focused page.

Your books. Your pace.

Bring the books you already own in EPUB, PDF, or FB2 format.

Read them in a lightweight reader with thoughtful typography, a clean interface, and reading-position tracking. No pings or interruptions.

Enrich your reading with highlighted names, location notes, and chapter exploration at your fingertips.

Discuss

I read it too!

Exactly as far as you have.

React to a chapter, question a motive, argue with the narrator, or explore an idea from the book.

Set your spoiler preferences, discussion depth, and book preset.

Open the book alongside the discussion when you want to revisit the text.

Explore

The story at your fingertips.

Chapter by chapter.

Explore summaries and key events for chapters your companion has read.

Revisit character, place, and relationship notes through chapter-specific views.

Coming back after a break? Catch up quickly with earlier chapter summaries before returning to the book.

I taught a machine not to know things.

While every other intelligence is racing to know more.

I built one whose ambition is to focus on your book, guided by how far you've read. This helps reduce unwanted reveals, but AI can still make mistakes.

“The best book companion may be the one that refuses to spoil the book for you, leaving you the pleasure of reading it yourself.”
— Alexander, the creator of InkCompanion

Before you open a book.

What is InkCompanion?
InkCompanion is a browser-based AI reading companion for books you own. Read ebooks, discuss chapters, and explore summaries, characters, places, and relationships.
Does it work on my BOOX e-reader?
Yes. BOOX devices ship BOOX's own NeoBrowser, so the reader, the discussion and the exploration all run on the device, and the BOOX Go 7 has a recorded on-device test report. The BOOX page says what is tested, what is documented, and what will not work.
Do I need an invitation?
Yes. InkCompanion is currently invite-only. You'll need an invitation to create an account.
Which books can I bring?
EPUB, PDF, and FB2 are supported today. More formats may follow. Upload files you have the right to use. InkCompanion doesn't provide books, but Project Gutenberg offers public-domain titles. Check their copyright status where you live. Processing can take time, and some files may not process successfully.
What does it cost?
The current invite-only beta is free, with usage limits. Paid plans may be introduced later. See the Terms of Service for the current offer.
Can the companion catch up with me?
Yes. Your saved reading position and the chapters the companion has processed are separate. Use Catch up to bring the companion up to your saved reading chapter. You can also edit your reading position.
Can it reveal spoilers?
Exploration uses chapter-based context and your spoiler preferences for best-effort protection. AI can still make mistakes, especially if you insist on revealing later events.
Is my book processed on my device?
No. The service stores and processes uploaded books, and relevant excerpts and prompts may be sent to third-party AI providers. See the Privacy Policy for details.
