Nothing to install: it opens in your BOOX browser.
InkCompanion is a web app, and any modern browser runs it. Your BOOX ships with one, so you are a single URL away from your next book club: open the site, sign in, upload a book, and start talking. No Play Store, no sideloading, no app that refuses to install.
If you have tried to get ChatGPT onto a BOOX, you know exactly why that matters: owners report the app failing Google's Play Integrity check on these very devices. The browser you already have is the whole installation.
And this is not a promise, it is a test report: on a BOOX Go 7, in the built-in NeoBrowser, every capability passed and every e-ink refresh mode behaved identically. The full experience, on the device you own.
Two ways to use it.
Keep your reading setup; bring the conversation.
❦On the BOOX❦
Everything on the device.
From browser to book club in one tab.
Bring a book you own in EPUB, PDF, or FB2 and read it in a quiet, typography-first reader, while a companion discusses each chapter with you and knows exactly how far you have read.
The companion reads the book first, so give it a little time; some files may not process successfully.
❦Companion❦
Read anywhere. Discuss anywhere.
Keep the reading setup you love.
Reading on a Kindle, a reMarkable, a paper book? Keep it. Open InkCompanion on your phone, laptop, or BOOX, upload the same file, and use Catch up to bring the companion straight to your chapter.
The one rule: reading elsewhere does not sync your position on its own, and Catch up is the two-second bridge.
❦E-ink❦
Built for the display.
Crisp, quiet, grayscale-native.
A dedicated E-ink theme: high-contrast grayscale with no translucency, a palette that adapts to true-grayscale screens, and transitions tuned to zero duration so nothing smears.
Try it right now with the theme buttons above, or pick it in display settings inside the app.
Will it work on my reader?
Yes, if it has a browser, and your favorite reader almost certainly does: every BOOX, Supernote, PocketBook, tolino, your phone, your laptop. Take your favorite reader, open the site, and enjoy the experience.
Proven on real hardware
BOOX Go 7, built-in NeoBrowser: every capability passed and every e-ink refresh mode behaved identically (recorded 2026-10-14).
Bring your browser-equipped reader
Every other BOOX model (Note, Page and Note Air sizes): the NeoBrowser ships across the line.
Supernote Manta and Nomad, PocketBook Verse Pro, and tolino devices all document a browser. Per-model test reports land in our device register as they happen, and the in-app capability page tells you in one tap where your device stands.
Phones, tablets and laptops: ordinary browsers, checked with every build.
Reading on a Kindle or a reMarkable?
Their reading world has no browser, so the on-device setup is out, but the companion setup above was built for exactly this: keep the Kindle, discuss on your phone, and Catch up does the rest.
The honest limits.
Reading in another app does not sync your position on its own; Catch up is the bridge.
The companion reads the book before you discuss it, and some files may not process successfully.
Spoiler protection follows your preferences and is best-effort; AI can still make mistakes.
Your book is processed by the service, and relevant excerpts and prompts may be sent to third-party AI providers.
The beta is free, with usage limits, while invitations last.
Questions BOOX owners ask.
Do I need to install ChatGPT on my BOOX?
No. InkCompanion runs in your BOOX's browser: open the site, upload a book, and start discussing. There is no app to install and nothing to sideload.
Why does the ChatGPT app fail to install on a BOOX?
Owners report the app failing Google's Play Integrity check on BOOX devices, including the Go 7. That check gates installs through Google Play, and a web app never passes through it: your BOOX's browser loads InkCompanion directly.
Is this the built-in BOOX AI Assistant?
No. InkCompanion is an independent web service, not part of BOOX. The built-in assistant works with what is on screen; InkCompanion processes the book you upload and follows your reading position.
Which e-readers does it work on?
It runs in a browser. The BOOX Go 7 has a recorded test report; other BOOX models, Supernote, PocketBook and tolino devices are documented to have browsers we have not tested. reMarkable tablets and Kindle e-readers have no documented browser.
Do I need a special AI e-reader?
No. The AI runs on the service, not on the device, so a browser-capable e-reader is enough.
What happens when I read in another app?
Reading in another app does not sync your progress to InkCompanion. Upload the same file and use Catch up to bring the companion to your chapter.
Do I need an invitation?
Yes. InkCompanion is currently invite-only. You'll need an invitation to create an account.
